Second Bar in Shinjuku After Dinner for Small Groups

Dinner in Shinjuku is over, three or four of you are still standing outside, and nobody wants to go home yet. That is the night we are opening HEAVEN TOKYO for. We run Korean Bar HEAVEN in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, Osaka, and the small groups who come in for a second round are the nights we know well. Our Tokyo bar opens on October 23.

A counter built for a few people in a row

There are eight counter seats. Two to four people can sit in a line and pick up the conversation where dinner left it. What we have watched happen in Osaka, again and again, is one person from the group turning to the regular on the next stool, and a few minutes later everyone is raising a glass together. If you came with Japanese colleagues, the row turns bilingual; if you came as travelers, the person next to you may be a Japanese guest who loves Korea or a Korean guest who loves Japan.

Bring food if you like; leave the drinks to us

A second stop comes after dinner, so appetites vary. If someone is still hungry, bringing food in or ordering delivery is fine. Drinks, though, come from our bar: soju, makgeolli, somaek, Japanese whisky, shochu and sours. If the first place was all beer, somaek, soju with beer, resets the palate. The all-you-can-drink plan is 2,500 yen per hour with about 80 cocktails.

Room for the ones leaving early and the ones staying late

We are open from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., every day. A second round always splits into people watching the last train and people who are not. At a counter, one friend can slip out for the train while the rest keep their seats, and by the time Korean and Japanese songs have gone back and forth on the karaoke a few times, the first train is running. If your date and headcount are set, hold seats with the reservation button on this site. With eight seats, that is the surest way.
